Artist's Statement
My practice explores ideas and themes through multiple fine art mediums which allows my practice to remain responsive and experimental. These include oil, acrylic and watercolour paints, inks and graphite drawings, hot glass, blown and sand cast, cold glass, etching, sand blasting, engraving, laminating, printing, ceramics, willow and metal. My aim is to employ the use of space, intrigue and even misdirection to engage my audience. The materials I sculpt and draw with must add to the visual dialogue.
Nature, human endeavour, the relationship of humanity with nature, objecthood; these highlighted and often reoccurring themes, often combine and interplay within the artworks I create.
Nature is at the heart of my practice. Understated and undervalued, nature is often overlooked, exploited and restrained by humanity and yet humanity is part of it. I strive to highlight and reawaken an appreciation of nature in all its wonderment. The ambition of my practice, with particular regard to nature, is to rejoice not lecture, engage not dictate and to question, not evangelise. Also to respect the artist, artwork, viewer relationship which sits within the foundations of my creative works.
